The modified Child-Pugh classification is a reliable staging system with which the hepatic cirrhosis can be staged clinically. This scoring system was originally designed to stratify patients at risk groups before decompressive surgery portal. The system of Child-Pugh score is a reasonably reliable prediction of survival in many liver diseases and predicts the likelihood of serious complications of cirrhosis, such as bleeding varices and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. It consists of a scoring system of 5 to 15:
- Scores of 5 and 6 belong to class A Child-Pugh (compensated cirrhosis).
- Scores from 7 to 9 indicate Class B.
- Scores from 10 to 15, Class C.
