Pocket PC Version of CorePlayer 1.0 Debuts
TCPMP has long been a very popular freeware audio and video player for both Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices. The Pocket PC version of this has just been updated, renamed to CorePlayer, and become a commercial application.
The new version offers a skinnable interface, support for streaming media, and, of course, can play a very wide array of audio and video formats.

Google Maps Released for Palm OS Treos
Google has introduced a version of its mapping application optimized for Palm OS-based Treo smartphones. This offers directions, local search, moveable/scalable maps, location satellite imagery, and traffic updates while on the go.

Socket Communications Announces Tiny SDIO Bar Code Scanner
Socket Communications will soon introduce the the Secure Digital Scan Card 3M (SDSC 3M), which it says will be the world's smallest and lightest laser bar code scanner.
It will include a SE-955 Class 1 Laser Scanner, allow for one-handed operation, and can have a range of up to 30 inches depending on the bar code size.
The SDSC 3M will include SocketScan, keyboard emulation software that directs scanned data into any Windows Mobile or Palm OS application as virtual keystrokes.
This scanner will be available October 24 through Socket Communication's worldwide distribution channels. It will sell for $399.
