Opera 8.6 works for Windows Mobile |
|
Even as Internet Explorer and Firefox get ready to slug it out as they struggle to lure users to their respective browsers, Opera has been making quiet gains on several fronts. Internet Explorer Mobile on smart devices looks a bit bland and here's where Opera has done a better job.
Opera Software lets users ignore the in-built browser on their devices and install Opera 8.6 for Mobile. The new application is direct and works on Windows Mobile Pocket PC devices. And what's more at $24 it is cost effective as well.
The Opera Mini 2.0 is a free browser for WAP-enabled feature phones and does not work on Windows Mobile. These two applications must not confuse users. The only problem with the Opera 8.6 for Mobile application is its installation, which is very tedious.
Users will have to download it onto their PC first and then transfer it to their smartphones. The application requires 2.4MB for the .CAB file, so you need to have some space in the phone or put in a memory card, which works just as nicely.
Opera Mobile is powered with its Small Screen Rendering technology, which makes web pages look as real as possible on the smart phones. It is also quite easy to bypass the ads and get to the main content unlike with IEM.
The addition of tabbed browsing in version 8.6 makes Opera a powerful browser indeed. Opera Mobile is very fast even without EDGE.
Opera 8.6 for Mobile is a nice addition to the smart phone. Users used to Firefox and IE are bound to welcome its introduction on the mobile devices.
