Phatware has released a beta of the latest version of its notes organizing software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs and smartphones as well as desktop computers. Among other new features, the PhatNotes v5.0 beta adds support for Windows Mobile 6.0 and Windows Vista, according to the company. PhatNotes enables users to create notes and organize them by type, subject, creation, and modification date, according to Phatware. The software provides powerful text search with regular expression support, document security, and email capabilities. It utilizes an interface to the contacts database that provides quick access to email addresses and other contact information, the company said. Phatware lists the following additional major new features in the v5.0 beta: * New database manager now supports multiple groups (folders) * Context analyzer allows dialing the phone, opening URLs, and sending emails by clicking on a word that represents a phone number, a URL, or an email address. * Full Unicode support * New 256-bit strong encryption algorithm * New synchronization module supports Windows Vista and ActiveSync 4.5 * Improved user interface * New MSI-based installer Smartphone-specific new features are said to include a multi-lingual spell checker and support for rich text formatting on Windows Mobile 5 or later. The spell checker's U.S. English dictionary is included, while dictionaries for other supported languages are available for download from the company's website. Unlike previous versions of the software, Phatware says the new version will be distributed as one edition that supports both Pocket PC and Smartphone devices. Additionally, it includes the desktop software and the synchronization module for ActiveSync. Further details on participating in the PhatNotes v5.0 beta program are available here. The final release of PhatNotes 5.0 is expected in Q3 of this year, the company said.
