Smartphone navigation getting low cost in Italy |
|
The Italian distributor Edge (Nokia, Route66, Holux, …) launched this week Navigant Connecto a navigation package for Smartphone and Pocket PC at a rather low price, costing only €109 for the Symbian version and €139 for the Pocket PC version. The software is from Route66 (with Italian's Navteq map data) and the box includes a SiRFstarIII Bluetooth GPS receiver.
When Route66 launched this software one year ago the recommended street price without the GPS was €99. The increased competition between navigation software's editors and the drastic cost decrease of GPS mouse and memory card are making Smartphone navigation a very attractive value proposition.
During the third quarter of 2006, the market research company Telephia indicated 8.8% of European buying a new phone chose a Smartphone, the Italian percentage being 19.2%.
