Giveaways, New Skweezer, Free Games |
|
We’re really been ramping up our offerings to subscribers of Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine. This week I want to tell you about our big giveaways. Plus, yesterday Skweezer — the champ of the mobile Web — launched a major update. And it’s time again for Doug Goldring’s monthly roundup of free games.
Giveaway: Palm Treo 750, HTC S710 As a subscriber to our magazine, you now not only get the magazine, Buyer’s Guide, and How-To Guide, but also FREE access to our new VIP site. (To create your free VIP login, please go to www.PocketPCmag.com/VIP). The VIP site features a 15% discount on all software at our Handango store, a well organized database of tips and how-to’s, the complete contents of the current issue, and our latest addition — monthly giveaways.
Our inaugural giveaway on August 1 includes: a Palm Treo 750, an HTC S710 (courtesy of MobilePlanet), and the 2007 Best of Everything Software Package, which includes $4,000 worth of the best software for Windows Mobile devices.
All subscribers who create their free VIP login are automatically entered in the giveaway, and there will be a new giveaway each month.
We have lots more in store for our VIP site, such as coupons and contests, freebies, and more. The annual magazine subscription price is $20, which can easily be recouped just by taking advantage of the 15% VIP discount at our Handango store.
Skweezer Update and T-Shirt Giveaway It’s great to see Skweezer continuing to forge ahead as a leading mobile portal to the Internet. It not only offers great search capability, but also dynamically reformats every Web page you look at so that it fits the small screen of your device. And it’s free.
Yesterday saw the launch of Skweezer 4.0. According to the press release, it’s been updated “from top to bottom with one goal in mind: to get users to the content they're looking for as quickly as possible.”
The user interface has been redesigned to reduce keystrokes and take advantage of "hot key" navigation that utilizes a phone's keypad.
One especially helpful and innovative new feature is "find in page," which allows you to quickly jump to specific content within a Web page. When you do a search and click on a result, a link will appear at the top of the destination Web page that conveniently allows you to search for your term within that page.
Other new features include search results from multiple search engines, with the final results selected on a case-by-case basis, determined by your device type, location, and other factors. Also, improved handling of those facets of Web sites that often are troublesome on mobile devices, such as frames, forms, and scripts.
To celebrate the launch, Greenlight Wireless is giving away two Skweezer T-shirts to readers of this column. Send me an e-mail with “T-shirt” in the subject line, and I’ll randomly select two lucky winners.
Latest Edition of Free Games Roundup Doug Goldring has finished his June edition of The Arcade, his monthly review of the best free Windows Mobile games. This month they include FreakOthello, Last Marble, Lines Gold, Retro Detonation, and AsobiSimon.
In Our Blogs Alan Zaks offers a great roundup on the new HTC Touch. And Werner posts about YouTube plugin we touched on in an earlier column. He gives more detail as well as screen shots.
If you know of other great online resources, I invite you to post in our "What's Happening on the Web" forum or to contact me at Jim_Karpen@PocketPCmag.com.
