Good To Know Pocket Pc Essentials |
|
If you wish to hold a computer in your hand, and you are not the strongest man on planet Earth, then try using a pocket pc. It is small enough in order for any person to be able to hold in one hand and operate with the other. These tiny computers can either have dedicated keyboards or keypads for data entry applications or small keyboards. No matter their type, hand-held computers and pocket computers are called palmtops , also known as PDAs.
To name just a few of their characteristics, I will start with the weight, which is insignificant, and continue with the miniaturized dimensions of the device, as well of its batteries. A pocket pc is a general purpose programmable computer, which usually has a small, full color, liquid-crystal display for output and also a little typewriter like keyboard for input. A palmtop offers an operating system that is compatible with that of a desktop computer, so it will also have a word processor, a calendar and phone book and a spreadsheet program. You can run many programs on such a device, transfer data from and to a desktop computer and so on.
Unfortunately, the small dimensions of the palmtop computers do not allow for disk drives to be present. Instead, you get PCMCIA slots, so you can insert any device such as disk drives, modems and memory.
The pocket pc's are in fact the palmtops that use a pen rather than a keyboard for input!
Palmtops can also work as as laptops and full-size personal computers, thus letting the users enter and retrieve electronically stored data in any legacy mainframe. This was made possible by the introduction on the market of a wireless LAN connection between mobile handheld devices, also known as palmtops and critical information located in enterprise systems, all done by a Rochester software-development company in alliance with a California supplier of wireless hardware. Nice job they did, isn’t it?
Pocket pc's are very useful when it comes to detailed planning of business operations, by including all the necessary information in a built-in database program. It can help track down everything there is to know about a certain project you are working on or whatever data you need, without the risk of misplacing the details on hundreds of papers. There will be no time consuming investigations in the folders, in attempt to find a specific detail. Yosssu just have it all there, right under your very eyes!
