Security software guards Windows Mobile smartphones |
|
Trust Digital announced that its enterprise smartphone management software now supports Windows Mobile 6. The new release of Smartphone Security adds to the product's existing support of Windows Mobile 5, Pocket PC 2003, and the Palm OS.
Similar to Microsoft's forthcoming Mobile Device Manager, Trust's Smartphone Security is said to help enterprise customers provision, manage, and secure smartphones. But in addition to smartphone support, the company says it also offers support for wireless PDAs that are frequently disconnected from a network.
Trust says Smartphone Security provides self-service, over-the-air (OTA) device registration and configuration. Applications and settings can be pushed to a device and updated later, according to the company.
The product also provides many different ways of locking down a device, Trust says. For example, applications can be assigned passwords individually or prevented from running entirely. Additionally, smartphone Security can control use of smartphone resources, such as cameras, voice recording, WiFi, Bluetooth, infrared, and SD cards or other removable media.
According to Trust, Smartphone Security also offers real-time, on-the-fly data encryption of policy-specified files, databases, and removable media. The software is claimed to be FIPS 140-2 validated, using AES 128/196/256 and Triple DES encryption.
Device "image locking" prevents applications from being installed or uninstalled, Trust says. Smartphone Security also allows data to be wiped OTA, or based on events such as extended device inactivity or multiple incorrect password entries.
Finally, the product is said to control access to Microsoft's Exchange ActiveSync. Access to email, schedules, contacts, task lists, and other Exchange Server mailbox data will be provided only to "registered, approved and compliant" devices, according to Trust.
Smartphone Security's enterprise console, compliance service, self-service portal, and device management gateway require a Windows 2003 server. Its Exchange ActiveSync manager is installed as a plug-in on an existing Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) server.
Smartphone Security is available now, though pricing was not disclosed.
