Toshiba Launches New Enhanced Softphone for Its Family of Strata CIX IP Business Communication Systems |

Toshiba America Information Systems Inc., Telecommunication Systems Division (Toshiba — www.telecom.toshiba.com) today announced the launch of the newly enhanced Toshiba SoftIPT® softphone. Compatible with Toshiba’s entire family of Strata® CIX™ IP business communications systems, Toshiba SoftIPT 2.1 wirelessly extends the features and functionality of Toshiba desktop telephones to suitably equipped PDAs running Pocket PC 2003, Pocket PC Windows® Mobile 5.0/6.0, SmartPhone Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0 as well as notebook computers, tablet PCs, and PCs running Windows 2000 or Windows XP and soon to be released for Windows Vista®. The Toshiba SoftIPT softphone enables users to access their desktop telephone features from virtually any location by connecting to the enterprise’s Toshiba Strata CIX IP business communications system through 802.11 wireless networks or virtually anywhere there is Internet access. The new SoftIPT is fully compatible with Toshiba’s new IP User Mobility feature and is a supported IP station that work in conjunction with Toshiba’s Video Communication Solution (VCS™).

New features in Toshiba SoftIPT softphone include: * Takes full advantage of Toshiba’s new IP User Mobility feature, which allows a user to log into his or her SoftIPT softphone even when the extension is being used by the desktop IP telephone or on another mobile device. IP User Mobility also allows users who share a common workstation to log in and use the SoftIPT with their own individual extension and profile. * Fully supports the Toshiba Video Communication Solution, an affordable, easy-to-use video communications solution that provides video conferencing and collaboration. * Allows for tighter integration with Microsoft Outlook, including support for multiple Outlook profiles, enhanced contact search capabilities, and click-to-call features. * Provides Survivability capabilities, allowing the user to connect to another Toshiba VoIP interface in the same system or in another system in any location to provide an ongoing connection should the link to the primary IP interface go down. * Integrates with GN Netcom 8120 and 9350 USB headsets. * Delivers full compatibility with Toshiba’s complete line of telephones, including IP desk telephones, mobile telephones and digital desk telephones.
Toshiba SoftIPT 2.1 also retains all the key features and functionality of the original SoftIPT product, including: * Delivers full compatibility with the enterprise’s Toshiba Strata CIX IP business communications system over 802.11 wireless networks or virtually anywhere there is Internet access. * Supports and extends the features of Toshiba’s IP and digital telephones, including: Unified Messaging soft keys and basic telephony features (Park, Hold, Transfer, Multiple DNs, Redail, Conferencing, caller ID, off-hook call announce, call record and much more). * Delivers friendly GUI interface that looks and feels like the Toshiba desktop telephones, allowing users to manage incoming and outgoing calls as well as hundreds of other call handling features, using pull-down menus for PDAs that help save real estate on smaller screens. Hands-free operation on PDAs or notebook computers using the built-in speaker or a headset.
System Compatibility Toshiba’s SoftIPT 2.1 is a software telephone client that runs on suitably equipped notebook computers, tablet PCs, and desktop PCs running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating systems and soon to be released for Windows Vista. It is also compatible with PDAs running Pocket PC 2003, Pocket PC Windows Mobile 5.0/6.0, SmartPhone 5.0/6.0. The SoftIPT softphone is fully compatible with Toshiba’s Strata CIX family of IP business communications systems.
