Birdstep Technology ASA has bagged a contract with Cosmote, a mobile operator in Greece. The contract reportedly includes EasyConnect GO client and server software as well as software licenses for initial deployment next year.
Birdstep was chosen because of the wide support of cellular modems, the auto-update functionality provided in the Provisioning Tool in the Device Management Server and its position in delivering feature complete connectivity software client solutions.
While the solution will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2007, Cosmotes mobile broadband customers will benefit from Birdstep's client software latest during first quarter 2008.
The number of different versions of cellular modems with different software versions offered by Cosmote is rising rapidly due to the burgeoning demand for Mobile Broadband. EasyConnect GO has the ability to support hundreds of cellular modems and boasts a structured and fast process of adding and automatically updating the software for supporting new cellular modems as well as hardware upgrades.
Cosmote will thus experience reduced support of different software from various cellular modems and have a secured upgrade path that can be used to effectively cross sell, up sell and upgrade the software with ease.
The new contract will further strengthen Birdstep’s position and more operator customers will now see the benefit that their EasyConnect product suite is delivering to mobile operators.
“We are pleased that Cosmote, a new operator customer to Birdstep and the largest operator in Greece, has selected our world leading software to enable mobile broadband Internet nationwide,” said Petri Markkanen, CEO of Birdstep Technology in a statement.
Markkanen added that they expect revenues already during the fourth quarter this year and high license growth 2008 as the mobile broadband market in Greece picks up.
Birdstep Technology is a global software development; marketing and sales company offering seamless connectivity and mobility client software for mobile data users on laptops, pocket PC and Smartphones as well as state-of-the-art embedded database technologies.
Cosmote is a major mobile operator in Greece with more than 12 million subscribers and presence in four other countries outside Greece. Its existing HSPA network has been in service since June 2006.
