Remote Access Software Supports Multi-Platform Environments

A recent survey of IT professionals revealed that nearly half use multiple operating systems, and more than half manage their Windows installation with tools that don't support non-Windows systems. Bomgar(TM) 10, the company's newest version of their remote access software, enables cross-platform technical support that reduces the complexity of business continuity in a multi-platform environment.

The survey, conducted by King Research on 961 IT professionals, found that 49 percent of those surveyed use multiple platforms. While using different systems enhances productivity by making the widest range of applications available for different functions, this complicates the technical support process -- especially when 60 percent of IT pros use tools that support only the Windows environment.

Bomgar's unique appliance-based remote access software, which earlier this year added Mac support, now also offers Linux support -- whether the support rep is using Linux himself, or is supporting a Linux customer.

"Bomgar helps you ensure that all of your clients who are using the SUSE, Ubuntu, RedHat, and Fedora versions of Linux are not left out in the cold when it comes to support. And the Bomgar representative client now enables support reps running SUSE Enterprise Desktop to gain remote desktop access to any Linux, PC, Mac, or Pocket PC system anywhere in the world," said Nathan McNeill, Bomgar VP of product strategy.

"You can even create a remote desktop connection to the unattended Linux desktops or servers you manage and support," said McNeill. "Bomgar remote control software also gives you Linux remote desktop access through corporate firewalls without the need for firewall configuration and without compromising security," he added.

Earlier this year Bomgar added Mac to the list of supported platforms and, with the release of version 10, rounded things out by adding support capabilities for both Linux OS users and for handheld units.

For customers' supported remote computers, Bomgar's remote access software now enables IT helpdesk reps to support Windows 95-Vista or Server 2003, Mac 10.3.9-10.5, SUSE, Ubuntu, RedHat, or Fedora versions of Linux, and Windows Mobile 5 for Pocket PC, Pocket PC Phone Edition, or Windows Mobile 6 Classic or Professional. All can connect within seconds through any firewall with any Internet connectivity -- dialup, T1, cable, ISDN, or DSL.
