Engine Software Presents: Project Bang! |
|
Meet Engine Software, the oldest and longest running development studio in the Netherlands. You're probably already familiar with their work, considering over 60 of their titles have been published across multiple platforms. Now the company is preparing an early jump on the WiiWare craze, hinting that their Project Bang! should be available when the service launches in March. In case you were wondering how this studio slipped by your radar, especially after boasting such a large library of titles in 12 years, allow me to explain. Engine Software is the company that worked on stellar video games for the DS, such as Suite Life of Zack and Cody 2, Marvel Trading Card Game, and Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Ok, so that last one does show they are capable of making a game worth playing. The list of developed games seems much more bleak when you look at their GameBoy library, which consists of Muppets, Power Rangers, Barbie, and High School Musical. At least on the Pocket PC they released Pocket Strip Poker II. That's a title I can get behind! So now that you have an idea of what Engine Software does, let's introduce you to Project Bang!. According to what I've been given, "Project Bang will be a casual game type with very addictive gameplay using the unique Wii Remote controller functionality, and will support a two-player battle mode." The game will be Engine Software's first WiiWare title, which they began planning shortly after acquiring the official Wii license, last year. That's it. I would tell you more about the game, but that wouldn't be possible as that's all Engine has released. I'll take this moment to fill space with speculation. The name of the game leads one to believe a weapon of some sort would be used. Bang typically refers to the sound of a gun, but may also be a firecracker or the sound of a car backfiring. Following the mold of previous games in their library, I'm inclined to believe the weapon will actually be converted to a popgun, or maybe a water gun. At which point the player will be dropped into a circus or carnival type arena where they will perform simplistic tasks. These tasks may or may not include filling a clowns mouth up with water, popping balloons, or soaking your opponent in feverish multiplayer mode. None of this will probably be accurate, but if their announcement is a sign of things to come, there probably won’t be much substance to the game. That writers strike is starting to affect everyone.
