Columbitech Adds New Features for Mobile Devices and Smartphones to Improve Productivity

Columbitech, a leading mobile VPN security software provider, today announced new features for mobile devices and smartphones, including support for Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6 operating system, up to 50% improved battery life and device management support for Network Access Control (NAC). The new features enable retailers and enterprise customers to reap the benefits of wireless capabilities without sacrificing security or performance.

As a Microsoft certified partner, Columbitech has added support for Windows Mobile 6 to increase interoperability and allow mobile workers easy and secure access to corporate networks. By supporting Windows Mobile 6-enabled smartphones and PDAs, Columbitech is adding security without affecting usability. Mobile workers can now experience increased productivity, knowing that the information being transmitted is fully secure.

“Wireless is becoming ubiquitous in the retail stores. Wireless devices provide an enhanced consumer experience, better customer service, and rapid transmission of transactions and inventory data,” said Steve Rowen, a Partner and PCI Compliance Specialist at Retail Systems Research. “It is heartening to see more vendors – like Columbitech – offering products that help retailers realize these productivity gains while maintaining a high level of security.”

New capabilities for Columbitech mobile VPN enable users to experience up to 50% improved battery life on smartphones and other devices, improving productivity significantly. Columbitech has also improved its support for Network Access Control (NAC), which better manages the status of each device before allowing access to the corporate network. Other features like Bluetooth-enabled capabilities and virus definition checks ensure that mobile workers will experience enhanced security when accessing the network.

With this announcement, Columbitech further demonstrates its ability to provide the latest mobile VPN technology. Columbitech provides the most extensive operating system support for legacy-based mobile devices and the newest smartphones supporting DOS, Pocket PC, Windows CE, Windows XP and Vista. It is the only FIPS 140-2 certified solution which can completely secure both WLAN and WWAN environments. The extensive mobile VPN capabilities are also critical retail requirements for PCI compliance.

“With the combination of existing legacy devices and increased demand for smartphones, it’s important for customers to know they can approach one vendor that will secure all their devices and needs,” said Lars Resenius, CEO of Columbitech. “Columbitech’s extensive support for the newest mobile operating system coupled with new productivity and security features delivers the most secure, future-proof solution in the marketplace.”
