Aiko Solutions has releasede SecuWipe, a data erasure utility for PDAs and Smartphones.

Priced at $39.95 for single user license, demo version is available at no cost which can be downloaded.

SecuWipe is data wiping tool that completely removes all traces of sensitive data from any mobile device. It will securely erase contacts, email, SMS, temporary files, browsing history, files, folders and memory cards.

Company officials explain that operating smartphones poses a great risk since they can store a treasure-trove of corporate and personal information. Standard "deletion" and even a "hard reset" do not completely wipe data off the device, with the result that sensitive information can still be easily retrieved by using special recovery software. SecuWipe overwrites data with U.S. Department of Defense compliant methods thus making data truly erased and unrecoverable.

It could be a best choice for those who want to avoid security breaches and protect customer privacy. The program employs different data sanitizing algorithms, including zero-filling, U.S. DoD 5220.22-M method, Bruce Schneier's algorithm, and Peter Gutman's algorithm.

It runs on Windows Mobile Professional and Classic ( 6.0/6.1 ), Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2000/2002/2003SE and supports all Smartphones from Windows Mobile Standard ( 6.0/6.1 ), to as low as Smartphone 2002. Windows CE 3.0/4.0/4.1/4.2/5.0/5.2 handhelds are supported as well. Versions forARM, MIPS, SH3, SH4, X86 processor types are supported.

Aiko’s other product line includes SecuBox a "disk encryption" solution for PDAs and Smartphones. It protects confidential information by storing it in one or more secure areas. Data written to this secure card is automatically encrypted without any user intervention. Data is safe even if the device is lost or stolen.
